Knott’s Berry Farm has announced HangTime, a thrilling new steel rollercoaster debuting in 2018, which the park is billing as “the only dive coaster on the West Coast.”

Located in the Boardwalk section of the park, HangTime will peak at 150 feet, slow to a halt, suspend riders at the top, then descend into “the steepest drop in California”, plummeting 15 stories at 96 degrees.

With a total of 2,198 feet of steel track, 5 inversions, and a negative-g stall loop that gives riders “the sensation of floating,” HangTime is going to position itself as a must-ride game changer for 2018.

“HangTime’s disappearing track creates a memorable illusion of the unknown as riders feel like they are hanging over a cliff, staring at the ground in nervous anticipation,” said Jon Storbeck, vice president and general manager, Knott’s Berry Farm, in the official press release.

A dazzling “track chase lighting” feature will add an exciting kinetic energy and bring a different dimension at night. It’s going to be as exciting to watch as it will be to ride.

In recent years, Knott’s Berry Farm has dedicated itself to the revitalization of it’s classic dark ride attractions, the Timber Mountain Log Ride and the Calico Mine Ride. It introduced a family-friendly interactive 4D experience, Voyage to the Iron Reef. And it has committed itself to thematic plussing and an overall beautification the likes of which the park hasn’t seen in many, many years. Even Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner restaurant has been entirely rebuilt.

But the last time the park experienced a massive mega-attraction expansion was with the opening of Silver Bullet in 2004.

Thus, a massive new roller coaster boasting one-of-a-kind elements is such a welcome sight to this wonderful regional theme park.

It’s a perfectly timed launch, ahead of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, which will debut in 2019, with Six Flags Magic Mountain having just opened it’s more family friendly dark ride, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, and with Universal Studios Hollywood taking a break after the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The coaster looks like it will be a high octane experience and a true must-ride event for 2018.
